Canterbury Secondary Schools Triathlon
Friday 6th March 2026
We are excited to be returning to a stand alone event in an exciting new format not seen anywhere else in New Zealand. All events will be super sprint format based from Southbridge pool with a heat and final for all athletes as well as a team time trial which should be awesome. That means athletes will have the chance to race 3 short events in one day.
How it will work:
INDIVIDUAL TRIATHLON : Individual athletes will race a heat over the super sprint distance then progress to an A or B final with the fastest qualifiers in the A final and slower qualifiers in the B final. If entry levels are high there maybe an A,B & C final. Equally if entry numbers are low the heat may just be a “warm up”.
TEAMS TRIATHLON - 2 or 3 team members complete a triathlon with 1 team member completing each leg
AWD/PARA TRIATHLON - distances TBC
TEAM TIME TRIAL - this is a chance for athletes to have an additional race. Teams are made up of 3 athletes from the same school who each complete a mini triathlon together ie you swim, bike and run together. Age is taken as the oldest team member (team can be single gender or mixed). Any athletes who do not have teams can create composite teams.
DATE: Friday 6th March 2026, approximate start time 10am
PRIZES:
Individuals: Medals will be awarded to the top 3 in each individual category with trophies for the winners
Teams: medals will be awarded to the top 3 teams
Team Time Trial - there will not be prizes but plenty of kudos will be given to the best teams.

Students can enter themselves independent of the school (these students will need a permission form from their school)
Entry will close at 10am the day before the race but PLEASE enter early to ensure we have a well organised event.
VOLUNTEERS - to make this event happen we need volunteers to help with marshalling, set up, pack down and other tasks. If you can help please put your name down in the form below. Schools entering 3 or more students are required to supply a marshal.
