Takahe to Akaroa relay

Hi all

Well done to all those who took part in the Governors Bay to Lyttelton run last weekend. It is a very scenic run – takes your mind off the hills!

Final event for the winter run season is the Takahe to Akaroa relay being held on Saturday 3 Oct, which this year incorporates the National Road Relay champs.

For those new to the run club this event involves teams of 8 and it is a one way course between Takahe and Akaroa, which means that runners need to make sure that they are at their start point in plenty of time before the previous runner arrives to hand over the baton. So there are logistics which need to be managed, and all those who wish to take part in this event must be 100% committed. This is a unique event and good fun when the team travel together over to Akaroa supporting their own team members as well as other team runners. It can be a day long event if the team travel together and attend the afternoon tea and prize giving in Akaroa.

Details of the event can be viewed at this link – http://athleticscanterbury.org.nz/Events-Results/takahe-to-akaroa-relay

If you wish to take part in this event you must advise me by return email by Sunday 20 Sept and please also advise me if you have a lap preference. If you do not make contact with me  you will not be entered in a team. Once the teams are finalized a team captain will be appointed to make contact with, and organise their team.

Any queries about any of the above please contact me by email running@canterburytriclub.co.nz  or ph hm 3488062 or 027 290 7040.

Regards

Kennett Cup

Hi all

Another great day for running at the Andrew Reece relays held at Woodend last weekend. Excellent turn out from the tri club runners and once again they were very supportive of their fellow runners.

Special mention this week goes to Pam for her delicious chocolate slice and Lidia for her lovely cookies.

Saxon won the age group race while the Masters men team of Axel, Andrew A, Sean, Carwyn and Hayden had the fastest time by just one second over Chch Avon. The tri club masters team of Leonie, Tanya, Juliann and Lidia also had the fastest time in their grade by over 5 minutes so well done all.

Please note that some of the Tri Run Club results on the Athletics Canterbury are incorrect due to late team changes.

South Island Cross Country Championships incorporating the Kennett Cup Steeples.

Next event is on Saturday, 27 June and is the South Island XC Champs and Kennett Cup Steeples, held at QEII Park.  At this event each person runs as an individual as opposed to relay teams.

You must bring your race number to this event.

For those new to the run club - do not be alarmed or put off by the title of this event – the only real difference between this and other events are a few hurdles which you are to run round if you wish, and there are medals up for grabs. There are some club members who have the potential to win a medal.

Start times and distances are:
1:15        Girls & Boys 11-14                            3210m                   1.5 laps
1:55        Open & Masters Women                 5056m                   2.5 laps
2:30        Open & Masters Men                       9000m                   4.5 laps
2:30        Youth Men 15-17                              5056m                   2.5 laps

Please be at the event at least 30 minutes before your start time and remember to hand back your running chip after your race.

Listed below are those people who have previously indicated that they wish to take part. Please contact me by Monday 22 June if there are any additions or withdrawals.

Any queries please respond by return email or phone Dorothy McPhail ph 3488 062 evenings or 027 2907040.
